The New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) allows CCS to be incorporated in the country’s ETS. In the ETS, participants receive one emissions unit for every ton of CO2 they reduce.

Studies into the appropriateness of CCS in New Zealand are being undertaken by the CCS Research Steering Group and the CCS Policy Group, both led by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), which is also advancing work on reviewing relevant to CCS.
