Sweden imposes a climate tax of SEK1.01 per kilogram of carbon dioxide emissions. This tax applies in the electricity and heating production sectors as well as the industrial sector.
Major emitters (above 0.4 MT per year) of carbon dioxide in Sweden are in the steel, refinery and cement industries. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency obtains funding primarily through fees and taxes such as this which are allocated to support research and investments to minimize the release of greenhouse gases.
